For less well-visited places, do go to Ely for its cathedral, Saffron Walden for its galleries, hidden garden, and general charm, Bury St Edmonds for its heritage, Woodhall Spa for the Dambusters connections, or Colchester for its Roman history.

For coastal wildlife watching, the North Norfolk coast has RSPB reserves and large seal colonies. You may be surprised to hear that Essex has amazing inlets and claims the longest coastline of any English county! 

Newmarket races is a good day out, as is the visit to the National Horseracing Museum there. Popular with children and adults alike, Colchester Zoo, Clacton Pier, Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm, Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, and Norwich & Lincoln Castles, are just some of the many attractions that the East of England has to offer.
